Digital Momentum, a marketing retainer for mid-market companies

Your marketing, handled.
Every month.

Digital Momentum is a marketing retainer that runs your whole marketing function for one monthly fee. The year's events are booked. The content is scheduled. The pitch deck is ready before the meeting is confirmed. Your marketing manager reads, talks to us and approves. We plan everything, and we make everything.

What changes

What changes when your marketing is on a retainer?

The scramble stops. With a marketing retainer, every pitch, event, campaign and document for the year is already planned, designed and waiting. Your team stops producing marketing and starts approving it.

Today
On retainer

A council tender lands on Thursday. The deck is built over the weekend.

Someone in operations opens an old template, pastes in last year's numbers and hopes the logo is the current one.

The deck already exists. We tailor it in a day.

A master pitch deck, capability statement and proposal template are kept current. A tender, partner pitch, client review or vendor meeting is a same-day request, not a project.

You hear about the industry expo after the sponsor deadline closed.

Competitors had a stand and a speaking slot. You had a mention in the programme's back pages.

The full year of events is on one calendar by week six.

Every conference, expo, award, trade publication and sponsorship worth your brand is mapped twelve months out, with deadlines, costs and the expected leads from each.

The company page posts when someone remembers.

Three posts in March, none in April, a rushed one before the annual general meeting.

Twelve months of social content, scheduled and written in your voice.

Company page and chief executive profile follow a content calendar tied to your events, launches and tenders. You approve a fortnight at a time.

Five departments, five versions of the logo, four fonts.

Sales has one look, human resources another, and the acquired business still uses its old brand on trucks and invoices.

One brand, tightened, enforced on every asset that leaves the building.

A full identity audit in the first six weeks, then every new item is produced by one studio to one standard. Nobody in your business opens a design tool again.

Ads are running. Nobody can say if they made money.

The agency sends a report of impressions. Finance asks a question nobody can answer.

A monthly report that connects spend to enquiries and revenue.

Google Ads restructured, conversion tracking installed, offline campaigns measured, and one page a month your leadership team can read in five minutes.

The website is three years old and the new services are not on it.

The redesign has been "next quarter" for six quarters.

A new site every month until the whole ecosystem is rebuilt.

Large, search-dominant builds, one property at a time, each approved by you before design begins, each visible in Google and in answer engines from launch.

Your side of the work

What does your marketing manager actually have to do?

Three things. Read what we send, talk to us on a fortnightly or weekly call, and approve. Planning, writing, design, build, media buying and reporting are ours.

01

Read.

A monthly direction document, a calendar, and the assets queued for sign-off. Written to be read in one sitting.

02

Talk.

A fortnightly strategy call with senior people, not an account coordinator. Say what is changing in the business. We adjust.

03

Approve.

Sign off each site, deck, campaign and post before it goes out. Then get back to the departments that need you.

Delivered in week six

What does a planned marketing year look like?

One calendar. Every event, publication, website launch, campaign and content run for the next twelve months, with owners, deadlines and budgets. This is the first thing we hand you, and it is yours to keep.

Fit

Who is a marketing retainer like Digital Momentum for?

Mid-market, tier one and tier two Australian companies with a marketing manager, several departments, and a monthly marketing budget between $7,000 and $15,000 that leadership is happy to spend when it can see what it returns.

  • 1You have one marketing manager, or a small team, serving sales, operations, human resources and the executive at once.
  • 2You pitch. Councils, government, prime contractors, distributors, partners, and each pitch needs a document that looks like a serious company made it.
  • 3You have grown through acquisition or new divisions and the brand no longer matches the business.
  • 4You spend on advertising, search and events already, and cannot say which of it produced revenue.
  • 5You would rather one senior studio owned the whole output than manage four suppliers and a freelancer.

Not a fit for early-stage businesses, one-off logo jobs, or companies that want a website and nothing after it. For those, ask us about project work instead.

Yours to keepThe audit, positioning and twelve-month roadmap from the first six weeks stay with you whatever happens next.
Earned monthlyWe earn next month's fee by delivering in the current one. Nothing is rebuilt on an assumption you have not approved.

Why does the retainer start with strategy instead of a redesign?

Because the most expensive thing a company can do is rebuild a website before deciding what it is for. Six weeks of strategy first means every site, deck and campaign after it compounds in one direction, and you never pay to undo work.

The studio

Who is Tokyo Design Studio?

An award-winning brand design and digital agency based in Sydney, operating between Australia and Ho Chi Minh City. We run marketing retainers for companies that are ready to stop being one of many and become the reference point in their category.

Senior-led delivery

The people who scope your work are the people who design it and sit in your strategy calls. You are never handed to a junior account manager.

Design-led thinking

Every deliverable, from a strategy document to a 200-page website, is treated as a designed artefact. The work demonstrates the standard we hold.

Visible in answer engines

Through our research division we developed methods for making businesses appear in generated answers, where a growing share of business-to-business research now begins.

Editorial authority

We publish Design Magazine and Ex Nihilo Magazine, and run the Design Magazine Awards, so we know what earns coverage and what gets ignored.

Led by Jess (Diệu Đức), Co-Founder and Design Director of Tokyo Design Studio and Editor-in-Chief of Design Magazine. Trained at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University and Billy Blue College of Design, with years in Tokyo's advertising industry before founding the studio.

Questions

Common questions about the Digital Momentum marketing retainer

What is the Digital Momentum marketing retainer?

A rolling monthly marketing retainer that runs your marketing function end to end. It covers strategy, an annual events and content calendar, brand tightening, websites, pitch decks, capability statements, collateral, Google Ads and offline marketing. Your marketing manager reads, talks to us and approves. We plan and execute.

What happens in the first six weeks?

We audit every brand property, build your positioning and website roadmap, map the year's events and content calendar and set the key performance indicators. At the same time we take over Google Ads, fix urgent technical issues and start answering design requests, so nothing goes quiet while strategy is built.

Can we scale the retainer up or down?

Yes. Move between Foundation, Momentum and Category Leadership as the workload changes, with 30 days notice. Most clients start on Foundation while the roadmap is built and step up when execution begins.

Does the retainer include media spend?

No. The fee covers strategy, management and production. Advertising budgets, sponsorship fees, print runs and publication placements are paid by you directly, and we tell you in advance what each is expected to return.

What is the difference between a marketing retainer and an agency project?

A project has a start, an end and a single deliverable, such as one website. A marketing retainer is a standing monthly engagement that covers the whole output of a marketing department, so strategy, events, content, brand and every document compound month on month instead of restarting with each brief.

How fast can a pitch deck or proposal be turned around?

Standard items are same-day on Foundation. On Momentum and Category Leadership, urgent requests take priority over the queue. Because your master deck, capability statement and templates are kept current, most tender and pitch documents are tailored rather than built from scratch.

Where are you based, and can you work with our interstate offices?

Sydney, with a production studio in Ho Chi Minh City. Strategy calls are held online or in person in Sydney, and we manage Google Business Profiles, local campaigns and event presence for every location you operate in.

Next step

Let's build something worth being known for.

A 30-minute call. Tell us what your marketing team is carrying and where the next twelve months need to go. We will tell you which package fits, and what your first six weeks would look like.

  • No pitch. A working conversation with the people who would run your account.
  • Leave with a recommendation. Which package, and what the first six weeks look like.
  • No obligation. If it is not a fit, we will say so and point you to project work instead.
