Squire / Brand Design

Squire Brand Design: connectivity, flow, and integration while maintaining the gravitas required in high-stakes construction projects.

Squire is a boutique client-side construction consultancy based in Melbourne, specialising in guiding complex development projects from initial feasibility through to final delivery.

Operating in a competitive industry where trust and precision are paramount, Squire needed a brand identity that would reflect their sophisticated approach and establish immediate credibility with high-value clients.

The Challenge

Squire needed something different—an identity that could convey both sophistication and strength, expertise and approachability, authority and collaboration.

Construction consultancy branding often falls into two extremes: overly corporate and soulless, or attempting to be creative in ways that undermine professional credibility. Squire needed something different—an identity that could convey both sophistication and strength, expertise and approachability, authority and collaboration.

The identity had to work equally well on a business card handed to a property developer and on technical documentation for multi-million dollar projects.

Design Strategy

Our approach centered on a fundamental truth about Squire's service: they connect.

They connect stakeholders, connect phases of development, connect vision to reality. This became our conceptual foundation.

We explored how to visually represent connectivity, flow, and integration while maintaining the gravitas required in high-stakes construction projects.

The Squire Logo

The Monogram

At the heart of the identity sits a stylised “S” monogram that flows into a circular, interconnected form:

Symbolic Meaning
The flowing form represents Squire’s role in seamlessly connecting every stage of the development process—from feasibility studies through planning, construction, and delivery. Nothing exists in isolation; everything flows into the next phase with purpose.

Design Principles

  • Symmetry & Balance – Reflecting order, trust, and the precision required in construction management
  • Circular Integration – Suggesting completeness, continuity, and the cyclical nature of successful project delivery
  • Elegant Simplicity – Sophisticated enough for luxury developments, clear enough for technical documentation
  • Strength in Form – Bold enough to command attention, refined enough to convey expertise

Typography

The logotype pairs with the monogram through carefully selected typography:

  • Professional Authority – Font selection conveying expertise and confidence
  • Contemporary Clarity – Modern without being trendy, ensuring longevity
  • Hierarchical Balance – Perfect weight relationship between mark and type
  • Versatile Application – Performing across all touchpoints from digital to environmental

Together, the monogram and typography create an identity that feels both established and forward-thinking—exactly the balance Squire needed.

The Brand Pattern System

We extended the logo's conceptual foundation into a comprehensive pattern system built from the interlocking "S" monogram:

Seamless Grid Structure
The pattern arranges in a continuous grid where each monogram connects to the next, creating an infinite field that can scale to any application. This wasn’t decorative patterning—this was strategic brand expression.

Symbolic Depth

  • Continuous Rhythm – Representing the ongoing, interconnected nature of construction projects
  • Structure & Order – Visual manifestation of project management expertise
  • Coordination – Each element working in concert, just as Squire coordinates multiple stakeholders
  • Reliability – The repetition conveys consistency and dependability
  • Precision – Perfect alignment reflecting the exacting standards required in construction

Practical Applications

The pattern system functions across multiple brand touchpoints:

  • Stationery – Subtle backgrounds adding sophistication without overwhelming
  • Digital Platforms – Creating visual interest and brand recognition
  • Presentations – Professional backdrop for project proposals
  • Marketing Collateral – Distinctive brand presence in competitive tenders
  • Environmental Graphics – Potential office wayfinding and spatial branding

The system provides flexibility while maintaining rigorous brand consistency—essential for a consultancy operating across diverse project types and client needs.

Colour & Material Strategy

Sophisticated Restraint

The colour palette reflects construction industry professionalism while avoiding generic corporate blues:

  • Primary Palette – Refined, authoritative tones suggesting trust and expertise
  • Supporting Accents – Strategic highlights for hierarchy and emphasis
  • Material Consideration – Colors selected for performance across print, digital, and physical applications

Textural Thinking

Brand materials consider tactile quality:

  • Premium Paper Stocks – Communicating quality through touch
  • Finishing Options – Spot UV, embossing, or foiling opportunities for key applications
  • Digital Translations – Ensuring materials work across all platforms without losing impact

Design Philosophy

Sophistication Through Simplicity

The Squire identity proves that sophistication doesn’t require complexity. The monogram’s elegant form, the pattern’s rhythmic repetition, the typography’s confident clarity—each element does exactly what it needs to do, nothing more.

Strength Through Connection

Rather than projecting strength through aggressive design choices, the identity finds power in connection. The flowing forms, the interlocking patterns, the seamless integration—all communicate that Squire’s strength comes from their ability to bring things together effectively.

Authority Through Precision

Every element in the system demonstrates precision: perfect symmetry in the monogram, flawless alignment in the pattern, considered hierarchy in typography. This precision isn’t accidental—it’s a direct reflection of the precision clients expect from their construction consultancy.

Project Impact

Sophisticated enough for high-end developments without appearing corporate and impersonal

Market Positioning

The new identity successfully positions Squire as:

  • Boutique Expertise – Sophisticated enough for high-end developments without appearing corporate and impersonal
  • Trustworthy Partner – Visual language conveying reliability and professionalism
  • Modern Consultancy – Contemporary design signaling forward-thinking approaches
  • Strategic Connector – Clear visual metaphor for their role in project coordination

Symbolic Design Thinking

The best brand identities communicate on multiple levels. The Squire monogram works as:

  • A letterform representing the company name
  • A symbol of connectivity and flow
  • A visual metaphor for project integration
  • A distinctive, ownable brand mark

This layered meaning creates richness that generic solutions can never achieve.

System-Based Solutions

We don’t design logos; we design brand systems. The Squire project included comprehensive guidelines ensuring the identity maintains consistency and impact across every touchpoint, now and as the business evolves.
